Distance Learning Programme – EWIS Empowers Schools with Technology
he Distance Learning Programme introduced by EWIS in Sri Lanka aimed to empower schools with technology to continue education during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. The programme involved the implementation of Microsoft Office 365, including Microsoft TEAMS, in government, private, and international schools, universities, and vocational training institutes. Training sessions were conducted for teachers to ensure effective distance learning and cater to the different learning needs of students at various levels (Basic, Intermediate, Advance).

Designing VCs
Designing the architecture of virtual classrooms.
Data Collection
Training the staff on data collection and data cleansing.
User Accounts
Creating user accounts for all the students and teachers.
Multi Ligual Training
Training the staff on how to utilize the system effectively in Sinhala, English, and Tamil.
User Manual
Distribution of user manuals for teachers, parents, and students.
Staff Training
Staff training on content development for online lessons.
Help Desk
Implementation of two designated help desks for students and teachers.
Continuous monitoring
Continuous monitoring to ensure seamless performance of the system.
The programme was implemented in several schools across different regions of Sri Lanka, including:
The first school in Sri Lanka to be fully equipped with smart interactive boards in every classroom. Distance learning was provided to over 1700+ students from Nursery to grade 13.
The first National School of Sri Lanka to introduce a Distance Learning Programme, benefiting 4200 students from grade 1-13.
The first International School in Sri Lanka to be onboard with EWIS’s Distance Learning Programme, connecting 1500 students from grade 1-13.
Various other schools in Colombo, Kandy, Jaffna, Kurunegala, Badulla, Matale, and other regions.
Each school had a different number of students covered and varying implementation times, depending on their capacity and preparedness for distance learning.
Overall, the initiative aimed to ensure that education continued despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, and it seems to have successfully impacted a significant number of students and educational institutions across Sri Lanka.
